A Florida family was outraged when their 6-year-old daughter was sent home from school. They discovered as she got off the bus that she had been sent home in nothing more than a shirt and underwear.
“She's been through enough in her life already and she's only 6,” her dad, Raymond McCurdy, told WKMG News.
Apparently the girl had wet herself after being denied by a teacher to go to the bathroom until it was too late.
The father continued, “She has medical issues and when she has to go she has to go."
According to Raymond, the girl was weeping when she exited the bus.
“I kind of lifted her shirt once we got in the car and noticed she was in panties and a T-shirt only, her soiled clothes in a bag,” he said.
Raymond contacted the school immediately where they explained that they had given the girl a clean pair of underwear, but had sent her home without pants.
“We asked her why my daughter was sent home in just panties and a T-shirt and she begins to tell me, 'We thought she had a long enough shirt to be able to put her on the school bus and send her home.’ They make me send her to school in clothes to their expectations, why couldn't you send my kid home in clothes to your expectations?” Raymond said.
The school district said they are looking into Raymond's claim. Raymond himself confirmed that he had been contacted by the school.
Students wetting themselves in school are nothing new. Some suspect that bladder and bowel control should not be enforced until 8 or 9-years-old and that teachers should be less strict about giving out bathroom breaks.
