Saturday morning garage sale shopping is sort of an American tradition. There's nothing like driving around with a special someone looking for that great deal. Almost everyone has a story of an amazing purchase they found for super cheap. If it wasn't for garage sales my childhood would be very different; I would have never had a basketball hoop, ping pong table or any of my prized Disney movies on VHS.
One person who knows a thing or two about savvy garage sale shopping is Brooke from the popular Start at Home blog. She has gained a reputation for finding old, run-down furniture and repurposing it into something much more. In the past, she has demonstrated how to make a DIY door hanger and a one-of-a-kind sofa table. Her latest project has captured the imagination of the Internet and caused a viral sensation.
After finding an old dresser at a garage sale, Brooke begins a process of transforming it into a very unique piece of furniture that you will want in your house right away.
Brooke found this old dresser with french legs at a garage sale. Even though it was in bad condition, she thought it had potential and bought it for cheap.
She started by removing the drawers on one side of the dresser, leaving a large opening within the dresser.
The result is a nifty piece of furniture that combines a bench with some storage space.
A fresh coat of paint and some nice decorations later, it's ready to use.
Brooke used the storage space to hold books and antiques.
She also reinforced the wood and added pillows to make the bench a comfortable place to sit.
Brooke recommends placing the bench in your entryway, just inside your front door. Although, it would look good pretty much anywhere.
