This winter has been relatively mild for much of the country so far, but that doesn't mean that we haven't had some cold, snowy days. Besides, as anyone who lives in a wintry climate can tell you, just because the full force of winter hasn't struck yet doesn't mean it's not going to. That's why it's always good to be prepared with your snow supplies beforehand. This includes shovels, warm clothing, and ice melt.
Sure, you could buy the expensive store-brand stuff, but why not save money and make something just as effective with materials you might already have on hand? This time of year, prices on ice melt are usually hiked up because stores people are going to buy it anyway. But you're smarter than those people - or at least you're about to be.
Homemade Ice Melt
- 1/2 gallon water
- 6 drops dish soap
- 2 ounces rubbing alcohol
- Combine all the ingredients in a jug or other container.
- Pour onto ice and watch it melt away.
