There are some songs that are just such classics that you can't help but smile the minute you hear them come on the radio. One of my wife's absolute favorites is "My Girl" by The Temptations because her parents used to sing it to her before bedtime when she was little.
Although this classic song is best known for being one of The Tempations' biggest hits, it was actually written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White. Robinson was inspired to write the song for his wife, fellow Miracles member Claudette Rogers Robinson. As they were writing the beautiful lyrics to this song, members of The Temptations happened to overhear and begged Robinson and White to let them record the song instead.
"My Girl" was first released towards the end of 1964 and didn't take long to become a number one single (a first for The Temptations). Since then, it's gone on to arguably become their biggest hit and has been featured prominently in several TV shows and movies. Its simple message - being so in love with your significant other that it just brings a smile to your face - is one that resonates with just about anyone, and the classic melodies and arrangements set the mood perfectly.
