There's An Island In The Caribbean Filled With Adoptable Rescue Puppies

Get this: as if vacationing in the Caribbean wasn't already wonderful enough, there's now an island specifically for dog lovers!

Potcake Place is a non-profit dog rescue on the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos. Responsible tourists get to take the adoptale puppies out onto the beach for socialization and playtime.

So what's the deal? Well, since the pups are housed in foster care with just a few people, they don't get the socialization they need. It's critical for them to get used to being around people, and the beach outings really help with that.

Jane Parker-Rauw founded Potcake Place back in 1997 after noticing that the island had a large population of roaming strays. Now, Potcake Place helps nearly 500 puppies a year find forever homes!

Here's the best part: qualified U.S. and Canadian citizens can adopt the puppies to take home! According to the website: "Once puppies have been fostered and we are confident that they are healthy, they are put up for adoption. You can adopt a Potcake [Puppy] and join the growing number of people in the U.S. and Canada, giving these fantastic loyal pets a much needed loving home. You can save a life and make a difference in the future of one dog, of your own family, and of the Turks and Caicos Islands."

If you're just lookig for a little playtime without the commitment, that's fine too - playtime is encouraged! "Pop in, meet some puppies and learn some more about what we do. We have a constant stream of puppies needing socialization and adoption. You can come by and take a puppy out to the beach – we’ll give you everything you need, you just need to supply some TLC."

BuzzFeed reports that "lucky visitors can take the dogs to the beach in the morning before the sand gets too hot so they can frolic, splash around, and get comfortable around humans."
