These Monuments In Yugoslavia Were Nearly Forgotten, Until This Photographer Captured Them.

Jan Kempenaers's book, "Spomenik," isn't technically an urban explorer photography book, but it's impossible not to notice the similarities. Rather than document the interiors of abandoned private places, Kempenaers photographs forgotten Balkan WWII monuments called "Spomeniks."

These monuments are scattered over former Yugoslavia and used to attract millions of visitors to the Eastern Bloc. Today, they are mostly neglected, relics of a past time.
