This 20-day-old Alaskan Malamute Just Learned How To Howl And It's Absolutely Adorable
The remote Canadian town of Churchill, Manitoba is so far north that it gets over-run with polar bears every year! Residents like Pat Kandiurin often live a more traditional lifestyle that includes raising sled dogs. This adorable little lady sitting on Pat's son is Belka, who is half Alaskan Malemute and half Siberian Husky. She was just 20 days old when she discovered the joys of howling! Like their wild relatives, the wolves, dogs howl as a way of communicating. Trainers say that when dogs seem to be howling at nothing, they may actually be responding to a distant howl or a high-pitched noise that we humans can't hear. Just as you respond when spoken to, dogs howl back to locate each other, share news or just be polite.
