When I think of summertime, I can't help but think of cherries. The house my family lived in when I was in elementary school had a huge backyard, and at the very bottom of it was a massive cherry tree. We bought every other fruit from the market, but because this tree was so abundant with fruit every summer, we never had to buy cherries - and neither did a lot of friends!
If you've ever tasted a dark-red cherry from late in the season, picked straight off the tree, it's a flavor you can't forget. Even if you think you don't like cherries, if you taste them like that, you will. Another way you may want to give cherries a try would be this cherry clafoutis.
Clafoutis (pronounced "claw-foo-tea") is basically a fancy French version of flan. Whenever you hear "French" around food, you may think it's too complicated for anyone but a master chef to make, but don't be fooled. This dish couldn't be easier to make, and the addition of cherries gives it a gorgeous pop of color and flavor.
