This Innovative Development By The Military Makes Flat Tires A Thing Of The Past
Considering the number of flat tires I've had to replace, this is the set of wheels I need. These airless tires have also been game changers for the military. When traveling through a war zone, it's important not to get slowed down. A big obstacle to this was the possibility of a flat tire. Even enhanced pneumatic tires could only continue for 30 miles at 30 mph after a puncture. In 2006, Resilient Technologies received an $18 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense. Through this partnership, along with cooperation from scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Polymer Engineering Center, these honeycomb tires were developed. They can even withstand direct fire, as long as 70 percent of the interior webbing stays intact.
