This Performance Is One Of The Best In The World. When You See It, You'll Know Why.

The ancient Thousand-Hand Guan Yin dance is in honor of compassion and protection to those who need it. Guan Yin is the bodhisattva of compassion and is revered by Buddhists as the Goddess of Mercy. The thousand hands represent Guan Yin's many abilities to give help to those in need. The eyes on the hands show Guan Yin's great powers of observation. The striking image of a serene woman with many arms extending behind her is one of Taoism's most recognizable images, right after the yin-yang. This performance is done by the Chinese Disabled People's Art Troupe and features a cast of 63 performers who are deaf. The troupe has existed since 1987 and consists of 110 performers and 37 nonperforming staff members, all persons with disabilities.
