Education is one of the most important things any person will ever receive. With that in mind, we all want to know that schools meet certain criteria; from this desire, standardized testing as we know it today was born.
The passage of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2002 was supposed to ensure that all states carried out annual testing to prove that educational standards were being met. However, since then, student success has fallen dramatically. With opponents citing the shift towards a "teaching to the test" attitude to curriculum, its easy to see how these tests do harm, especially to students who don't learn within narrow parameters. Luckily, this teacher is ensuring that her students know that they have value, no matter their scores.
