Imagine that you're house hunting in Massachusetts and you come across a real Victorian mansion. It's 6,661 square feet, built in 1875 and has 10 bedrooms.
You'd see it and immediately think that it's gorgeous, but has to be outside your price range.
But you'd be wrong.
The house is listed at just $329,000. That's roughly the asking price for any other three-bedroom house in the area.
You would think that a 10-bedroom, 2.5-bath home with 11-foot ceilings and original hardwood floors, windows and marble fireplaces would be priced so much higher.
So what's the catch?
This home has a reputation as one of the most haunted houses in New England.
Under the hands of the home's various owners, seven people have lost their lives.
There are rumors of several ghost sightings: a servant girl, a silent little boy staring out the window, a melancholy woman. In fact, some people say they can see a figure haunting this very room.
Look at the ceiling.
The last couple to purchase and live in the home wasn't aware of its spooky past. They claimed to experience strange sounds and odors in the house, even seeing objects moving around inexplicably. They ended up moving out.
Shows like “Ghost Hunters,” “Ghost Adventure,” “My Ghost Story” and “10 Most Haunted Places in New England” have all reported on this property.
The investigators made chilling recordings, like an unknown voice that seemed to be saying "squeeze every throat."
Another investigator challenged one of the ghosts, asking it the name of the previous owner. The ghost responded with the name Lillian, who was, in fact, a previous homeowner.
Enchanted by the home, P.T. Barnum, Bette Davis, Norman Rockwell and Calvin Coolidge have all paid a visit here.
Would you take your chances with the supernatural to live in a real Victorian mansion?
It's beautiful, but are you brave enough?
