Watch As This Service Dog Calms Down A Woman Having An Asperger's Meltdown
Asperger's syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that manifests in the form of difficulties with social interaction, nonverbal communication and repetitive behavior problems. Since people with Asperger's tend to have relatively normal linguistic and cognitive development, they are often more misunderstood than others on the autism spectrum because they seem relatively "normal." People with Asperger's often suffer from acute loneliness and isolation, which can sometimes result in depressive episodes such as this one. This is why service dogs are highly recommended in these situations, because they are trained to sense distress and help their owner calm down. The woman in this video, Danielle Jacobs, was brave enough to give this glimpse into one such episode in order to show how her service dog, Samson, helps her get her emotions back in check.
