Jessica Cochran of the Community Animal Project never expected to find love chained to a barrel in a dirt patch. However, after meeting Edith the dog, she can now, happily, say otherwise.
Edith lived most of her life chained outside in the dirt, neglected and without fresh food or water. Over the years, Jessica would visit Edith and even recruited help from PETA to provide a more comfortable environment for her new, loving companion. Not only did Jessica work to provide Edith with a doghouse, clean food, water, new toys, and treats, she gave Edith the love and attention that she so desperately deserved - it was a bond deeply cherished by both Edith and Jessica.
However, in 2014, Edith was moved without any notice given to Jessica or the other animal rights activists who took care of her. Uncertain of where Edith might have ended up, Jessica worried for two years over her canine friend. Luckily, in 2016, after years of neglectful ownership, Edith was finally turned over to PETA - the same organization that helped Jessica connect with Edith nine years earlier.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Jessica adopted Edith and rekindled their age-old connection. Today, Edith is happy and healthy, enjoying her new life with an owner who truly cares about her.
Edith was lucky enough to have a seamless transition into her new home, however, for neglected animals everywhere, this is not always the case. Dog rescues, like Edith’s, are crucial to preventing the mistreatment of defenseless animals everywhere. Today, because of the love and dedication of one person, Edith finally has a home.
