A boy in Nova Scotia, Canada was reunited with a very important teddy bear, thanks to social media.

Seven-year-old Duncan’s birth mom passed away, and one of his most prized possessions is a teddy bear that contains a personal voice message she recorded before her death. After Duncan and his family went on a vacation to Airdrie, they realized they’d accidentally left the bear behind.

Stepmom Ranelle MacMaster embarked on a social media crusade to ask Airdrie residents to keep an eye out for the one-of-a-kind bear.

Days later, Airdrie resident Heidi Erickson found Duncan’s backpack hanging on a post by the entrance to a park. The bear was inside.

“I was in such disbelief,” Heidi told Global News.

It’s still a mystery where the bear went or how it got onto that pole. But Duncan is just happy that it was found.

“I’m really happy. I was feeling really sad for a few days because I missed my Momma Bear.”

Said Ranelle…

“We are so thankful for all the caring people who shared the posts, went out searching for the bear, and sent their well-wishes for her safe return.”

After a victory tour around Airdrie, the bear got an express trip on West Jet Airlines back to Nova Scotia, where Duncan and his family met up with it at the airport.

“Momma Bear” is now back in Duncan’s arms.

Heidi pointed out what we all needed to remember…

“The real heroes of this story are Duncan’s moms. His birth mom, who cared enough to leave that message for her son before she passed, and also his stepmom, who cared enough to keep that memory alive, who cared enough to reach out to a community to find this bear.”
