89-Year-Old WWII Veteran Scores Touchdown At Alumni Football Game
May 2, 2015
Sperry played football at Kansas State when he was 17, but left after two years to fight in WWII, where he participated in the famous Battle of the Bulge. Upon returning, he spent three years finishing his studies and his football career at the University of Kansas. In his last season, he played alongside his brother Kenneth, and even caught a pass at the 1948 Orange Bowl. The look of pure joy on his face as he runs that touchdown is a good reflection of what those days meant to him.
89-year-old Bryan Sperry is a World War II veteran who played college football in Kansas nearly 70 years ago, but recently he scored a touchdown that's melting hearts everywhere. At an intrasquad football game at the University of Kansas' Memorial Stadium, in Lawrence, Kansas, he showed that he still had something left in the tank - as he ran past several younger former Jayhawks to put one in the end zone.
