A 102-Year-Old Woman Sees Herself Dance For The First Time

Apr 24, 2015 By Madeleine Brown
At the age of 102, a former dancer named Alice Barker is finally seeing herself in action for the very first time. A chorus line dancer in the 1930s and '40s, during the Harlem Renaissance, Alice appeared in movies, TV shows, commercials and plenty of live performances. She performed alongside greats like Gene Kelly, Bill Robinson and even Frank Sinatra. Unfortunately, however, she never saw any of the footage (how and why she didn't is not clear) and her photos from the time are long lost.

To celebrate her 102nd birthday, film group Tenfresh surprised Alice with old footage that they had found of her performances. These films are called "soundies," featuring Alice in all of her glory. It is beautiful to watch her face light up as she flies back to this wonderful time in her life.
