Diver High-Fives One Of The Biggest Great White Sharks Ever Seen On Camera

Jun 14, 2015 By Archit Tripathi
Shark researcher Mauricio Padilla recorded this incredible footage back in 2013, off the coast of Mexico's Guadalupe Island. This area is a known congregation site for adult great white sharks every year. He was accompanied by a team of researchers and a film crew from Discovery. This particular great white, a female they nicknamed "Deep Blue," took everyone by surprise as it was one of the largest sharks ever captured on film.

Deep Blue is estimated to be over 20 feet long and weigh as much as 5,000 pounds, and is believed to be at least 50 years old. Most adult great whites are around 15 feet in length. She was featured in a Discovery segment last year, but Padilla found this behind-the-scenes footage as he was going through some old clips last week.
