Elderly Women In Bolivia Have Found A Really Great Way To Stay Active

Around 1,000 elderly people participate in the program, designed to help senior citizens feel less neglected. Some play actively while others are content to just have a place to meet friends and share stories from their younger days. Watching these grandmothers play, however, may convince you that their youth hasn't run out just quite yet.
Traditional Aymara grandmothers in Bolivia are finding a decidedly non-traditional way to combat the aches and pains of aging: playing handball. Every Wednesday, dozens of these women put on their sneakers and sports jerseys over their traditional garments, and play handball at a covered court on the outskirts of the capital, La Paz.
