Fisherman Has Change Of Heart After Catching Stingray
Feb 5, 2015
Stingrays are ovoviviparous, which means they give birth to litters of live young (the eggs are incubated and hatched internally). One unique feature of female stingrays is that they can keep sperm in storage, sometimes waiting years before picking the right time to give birth. Two females at the Sea Life London Aquarium gave birth to seven babies, despite not having been in contact with a male for over two years.
18-year-old Calvin Conger was on a fishing trip with his family off the coast of Port Charlotte, Florida when something completely unexpected happened. As you can see in the video, a stingray he'd been planning to use as bait turned out to be pregnant, and Calvin's father, Terry, ends up playing the midwife.
