Since as early as the 1950s people have been looking forward to a future filled with hovering transportation. Most popularly, Marty McFly rolled (or rather hovered) around on a flying skateboard called a hoverboard in the Back to the Future series. Since then, nothing quite like McFly's board has been invented, although marketers tout the self-balancing two-wheeled board that was so popular this Christmas as the next best thing.
For a true hoverboard, however, folks will still have to wait. Inventor Greg Henderson built a working prototype of one, but he has said he will not produce it. Lexus also made waves with a video of their hovering board, but later disclosed that it would only work on special surfaces.
