How To Tell If Someone Is Lying To You
Mar 1, 2015
The most famous of all lie-detection methods is the polygraph, which measures physiological activity in the participant. Under normal conditions, the subject would be at ease and show a relaxed physical state. Lying, however, triggers stress in the subject, causing their heart and breathing rates to elevate. Though polygraphs have a better-than-average success rate, they also have limitations, and can be fooled or give false readings. Due to this, they are considered inadmissible evidence in U.S. courts.
Humanity has always been fascinated with the art of deception, as well as methods for detecting it. We have countless stories, legends, TV shows, and movies about heroes who are able to detect a lie, whether it be through some form of keen perception or the use of technology.
