NASA Presents An Unprecedented Look At Our Sun, And It's Mesmerizing
Feb 18, 2015
The amount of data produced by the SDO is incomparable to anything experienced by NASA before, as more than one image per second is taken of the side of the sun facing the Earth. Still producing new images to study, this will continue to be a treasure trove of research data for NASA for years to come.
February 11 marked five years for NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory project. To celebrate the accomplishment, NASA has released two videos containing some of the collected images. The first, featured here, is a time-lapse video where at times the sun is seen using different colors of light. These colors represent the different wavelengths of "extreme ultraviolet, ultraviolet, and visible light." The colors also correspond to the different temperatures.
