Swedish Brothers Launch The First Donut Into Space

Apr 18, 2015
Two brothers from Lysekil, Sweden took a giant step forward in the area of pastries last week. Alexander and Benjamin Jönsson have always been interested in space, photography and weather balloons. Last week, the duo attached a donut and a camera to a weather balloon and launched it from Norway. The balloon sailed (and the attached camera had the pictures to prove it) almost 20 miles above the Earth's surface. Several hours after the launch, the entire contraption returned. According to the brothers, all of the pieces (even the pastry) were still intact, despite being a bit soggy.

The permit for the weather balloon is 11,000 kronor ($1,245) in Sweden, but it's free in Norway. So, that's why the siblings crossed just over the border to Norway before launching their craft.
