This Is What Happens When A Cheetah Is Raised Like A House Cat

Feb 4, 2015
The KWA Cheetah Project, ran by Desmond and Elizke Gouws, has a main goal of repopulating cheetahs into the wild. Every cub that is rescued is intended to be assisted and then released into the wild.

Yakira is quite different than the usual cheetahs rescued in the project. Yakira was injured as a young cub; because of this injury she can not be reintroduced into the wild. So, the Gouws have made her a pet, of sorts. She seems to be completely domesticated, from riding in the family car and chumming around with the family dog, to walking on a leash. It is simply amazing what all Yakira does, but it also leaves one to wonder... will she always be so tame?
