This Miracle, Game-Winning Touchdown Is Straight Up Bonkers

Nov 2, 2015 By Houston Barber

When Duke University scored a touchdown with six seconds left to take the lead over Miami, pretty much everyone thought the game was over. The only ones who didn‘t give up were the 11 Miami players who took the field on the next play. In one of the most insane plays you will ever see, the Hurricanes lateraled the ball, and lateraled it again, and again and again until finally they were able to break free and run 90 yards for the winning touchdown.

The play wasn’t without controversy, however. The officials reviewed all angles of the play for nine minutes until they finally agreed everything was legal and awarded Miami with the touchdown and a big victory over Duke. Not everyone agreed with the official’s review of the play. Duke coach David Cutcliffe has requested the NCAA reverse the decision of the refs and award Duke the victory. While that is not likely to happen, the referee crew from the game has been suspended for missing a number of calls on the final play.
