Jan 30, 2015
The baby orangutan was suffering from anemia and severe metabolic syndrome which had prevented his bones from developing properly. Dr. Karmele L Sanchez, IAR's Program Director in Indonesia, says, "His eyes fill with tears every time he's moved by the doctors and he screams in pain. It's really amazing that Budi has been able to survive this long." The staff says he's not out of the woods yet, but this resilient little guy is making a slow recovery.
Meet Budi, a tiny baby orangutan who was rescued from severe neglect. For the first 10 months of his life, Budi was kept in a chicken cage and only fed condensed milk which was slowly killing him. After a journey of more than 10 hours by boat and road, Budi arrived at the International Animal Rescue's Orangutan Rescue Centre in Ketapang, Indonesia in critical condition.
